Required Reading

This was required reading for my History of the Beatles class at Indiana Univeristy the Fall of 1989. Written by Peter Brown and Steven Gaines, it's probably the best book on the Beatles. I recently took it with on a flight to San Francisco and didn't realize that time has taken it's toll.

It may be time to invest in a newer edition with an new foreword by Anthony DeCurtis and different cover.

B is for Blue

It's been rainy, gloomy and blue here. This video is fitting because it just seems sad to me. Maybe I am just in a funk. Either way, this provides a nice soundtrack to my mood.

Required Reading For the Young

Who Were The Beatles by Geoff Edgers
Cute book with lots of illustrations. There's a chapter on each Beatle, forming of the band, Beatlemania, the beginning of the end, going solo, to name a few.

The book is extra special to me because the last chapter is titled The Saddest Day. It tells the story of John's death. And till 9/11 that truly was the saddest day for me.

I believe my daughter may have received the book from either the Easter Bunny or Santa Claus, I can't remember. All I know is I am off to do some easy reading

I Me Mine

I read I Me Mine this weekend. When I finished my thought was that's it, that's all. I wanted more details, more personal information. Something juicy but it was not to had.

My favorite item in the book was learning that George co-wrote Badge with Eric Clapton and while writing

I told you not to drive around in the dark. I told you...

Ringo who was plastered came in said

...about the swans that live in the park.
I now know why that line never really seemed to fit for me.

It's a quick read with half the book being pictures and George's handwritten lyrics with additional information.

09 After 909

Today's long awaited release of The Beatles Rock Band means very little in our house since we have no gaming systems. However, I am happy to know that it will serve as an introduction to the Beatles for many who have no idea who they are or the impact they made on music. I am also looking forward to all the Beatles music I am sure to hear on the radio today in honor of the occassion.

Tell Me Why

Why a blog about the Beatles?

Because they are the best band that ever was and ever will be. There will never be another Beatles. No contest, no discussion.

I don't claim to be an expert or even their biggest fan but the Beatles are woven through out my life, sometimes in the forefront sometimes way in the background.

I don't plan to detail the Beatles experience in chronological order or any sort order at all. I just want to talk about my Beatle thought of the moment and see where it takes me and I hope people will chime in along the way.
